Codes and Conventions

Codes and Conventions

There are a various amount of codes and conventions in Newspaper mediums. In geneeral they are basically the things that make a newspaper what it is. For example quotes givien by an interviewer in an article.
All forms of media have codes and conventions that are specific to them, but as I am doing print that is going to be the product that I analyse.
Typical codes and conventions of a print medium:
---Photographs
---Columns
---Headlines
---Font
---Captions
---Index
All of these are typical of Newspaper making it distinguishable from magazine for example. Although codes and conventions are used in Newspapers keeping the layout and format familer the changing of text, format, jounalistic style makes each paper individual. The tone of The Sun for example is different form the tone of The Independent.
The style of writing also differs from paper to paper which makes it accesible to certain audiences.
With the content of the paper making each one distinguishable, for example the Daily Star and their Page three girls or the The Telegraph for their political correspondance.
