Logos.

Logos.

To make my newspaper stand out amongst the others I reserached a little into Logos, after considering my area i decided as recycling is a very big issue it would be the best idea to reflect that. All the popular newspapers such as the red tops have red logos. Broadsheet focuses on black and white.

I decided to mix Black and green as it highlights the recycling colour.

Codes and Conventions

Codes and Conventions

There are a various amount of codes and conventions in Newspaper mediums. In geneeral they are basically the things that make a newspaper what it is. For example quotes givien by an interviewer in an article.
All forms of media have codes and conventions that are specific to them, but as I am doing print that is going to be the product that I analyse.
Typical codes and conventions of a print medium:
---Photographs
---Columns
---Headlines
---Font
---Captions
---Index
All of these are typical of Newspaper making it distinguishable from magazine for example. Although codes and conventions are used in Newspapers keeping the layout and format familer the changing of text, format, jounalistic style makes each paper individual. The tone of The Sun for example is different form the tone of The Independent.
The style of writing also differs from paper to paper which makes it accesible to certain audiences.
With the content of the paper making each one distinguishable, for example the Daily Star and their Page three girls or the The Telegraph for their political correspondance.

Institutions

Institutions
As my product is going to be a local newspaper I did some background research on the type of institutions that might publish and print my product. After researching my local newspaper The Epping Forest guardian. I found that it was part of the Guardian Media Group that as well as owning Guardian newspaper it also owns the observer. The establishment itself was founded in 1907 as the then named Manchester Guardian and remained that name up until 1993 where it was renamed Guardian media group. As well as producing newspapers, it also produces radio stations, broadcasting and websites.
Guardian media group like other smaller institutions are then owned by larger institutions, in this instance Newsquest, which was founded in 1995 which creates and produces newspapers.
When creating a newspaper an institution is imperative regardless if it is mainstream or independent. They help with tailoring of a product to an audience using demographics to decided how the content should appeal to a particular audience.
As my audience demographics are aimed at a middle/working class audience, the content has to reflect that.
As it is also a family orientated paper there has too be as many positive news stories as there are negative. Therefore I am going to have a story that effects young people, animals and a regional story. My front age is going to adopt a constant reoccurring theme that are currently in the papers.
The institution that would most likely produce my newspaper would be guardian media group as there is an audience for my paper there would be an available gap in the market, unlike The guardian and The independent which splits their paper in context with their district, My paper would be a County newspaper having news stories and features covering all of Essex.

I found that in general The Local guardian has a very family orientated feel to it with many of the articles featuring positive stories. Although the front page tends to have a scandal on the front that tends to appeal of it’s audience especially as people tend to recognise or have already become aware of the situation that has occurred. I wanted to keep this particular theme with my own paper in making it accessible to my audience.
The views of the public are taken very seriously with a whole page/two pages taken up.
There is a large classified section which is fa miler in many of these papers alongside the recruitment.
