We have identified our genre as a dance film, with elements also taken from 'chick flicks' a genre which focuses towards the female sex and has a feel good factor surrounding it. There are many conventions in which you would expect from such genre's. There is normally a lead female character. as the audience themselves are normally female orientated as is with the case of such films such as Save the Last Dance, Step Up and Centre Stage. Often the case is that the lead is a dancer who overcomes difficulties to get to the top. We also found the common emergence of today's Hip Hop scene being merged with more traditional versions of dance such as classical ballet or ballroom. We usually find the lead trying to get into a dance school and being turned away therefore forcing her to train even more overcome obstacles and eventually get in. Another convention that is followed alongside the main story one that involves love, something that a female audience also can relate to. With most dance films the opening sequence includes an audition (which in almost all cases the lead is turned away from) and some elements of dance which solely captures the audience. As far as our 2 minute opening sequence goes it is very hard to include some of the above therefore we decided to simply show the journey to the audition and the audition itself. A code in which is included in films that are specific to that genre is costume frequently we find ourselves being shown especially in the case of our own film a ballet dancer therefore as an audience we understand this by the leotard worn, tights, hair and shoes worn. As you can see from the picture above our dance has the costume in which we will also use as our character's costume. Amy :)
